Windows Mail is messy compared to Outlook Express. Crammed with small images and text lines, that's not presented in a clear way. Hard on the eyes, and strains the brain. It's impossible to get a good overview. :(

I use two email addresses, and the top one doesn't show a name. It only says "Local Folders" and then Inbox comes under. Only the top one is presented with Outbox (used for both adresses). And only the bottom one has "Saved". Etc, etc... It's like a deck of mixed cards. Really frustrating, you have to search with your eyes through the clutter every time. :confused2:

("Saved", "Junk E-mail", and "Spam". Do you really need so many? It only makes the mailbox even more of a haystack. "Junk E-mail" seems completely unnecessary to me.)

How do I switch the order and put the bottom email address at the top?

Everywhere I am told how to default an email address, but nowhere is explained what it means. I looked up default in the dictionary and got the following explanation: Computers. a value that a program or operating system assumes, or a course of action that a program or operating system will take, when the user or programmer specifies no overriding value or action.
It made me no wiser. What does "default" mean?

When Sending/Receiving, an extra window opens, showing status of traffic. It doesn't go away by itself afterwards. How do I stop this annoying window from showing up every time?

Furthermore this window shows Error messages almost every time, even though I can send/receive emails. (Although sometimes it doesn't work, and I have to experiment with changing servers and port numbers. Aol gave me a port number for outgoing mail, but no specific number for incoming mail.)
What do I make of a message like this, and similar variations: "Can not find IMAP server 205.188... , 205.188... :)143) Error Number:10051" In what way do these numbers help me? 10051?? I searched the computor, and googled for it, without success. How do I fix the problems? It seems you have to be a computor wiz expert to handle Windows. I mean, what is a kid or a house-wife to make of this coded sign? Home computors are supposed to user-friendly!

I don't use Windows Mail, I use Windows Live Mail. Perhaps try that, as you can easily rename the Mail account and it will be in alphabetical order as well. It's much closer to Outlook than Outlook Express and a bit easier to get things done with.

Thank you. I downloaded Windows Live Mail. It looks a little better, with different colors keeping things separate.
Still, most of the issues seem to remain.

If you right click on "Local Folders", you can rename it to whatever you like. If you really want it at the top, start it with something like "1-providername".

Default email address means when you go to compose (write) a new email, it will send out under that account.

In general, "default" in computer terms means the action that will be taken when you have specified an alternative course of action. So if you doubleclick a file and there is a default action (program) associated with it, it will perform or open the file in that program.

I don't have the issue with the sending/receiving status window, do you still have that? If you do, look in the bottom right corner of the window, you may have the "pushpin" enabled which will lock that window.

You'll have to peruse the ISP's email help section, I don't use AOL so I'm not familiar with the email settings required there. Are you sure they are using an IMAP based email system and not a POP3?

I don't know if it is set already but try IMAP 143.

Yes it's set to 143 by its own.

It works fine to send/receive email now.
But the sending/receiving status window keeps giving these Error messages all the time about not being able to find servers. Perhaps my computor is oversensitive, reacting if contact is not made fast enough.

OMG, I seriously didn't think any used this crap program. My workplace made me read this huge manual for Vista and I skipped this section, along with movie maker and contacts, etc.

Windows Live Mail is really slow in reacting.

When an email has been sent it takes long before it shows up in the Sent Items folder.
And when I try to close the main window, often it doesn't react, but a small window message shows up instead, saying that it is busy handling folders. Very slowly. And when trying to close this small window, it just freezes. :mad2:

I do prefer Windows Live Mail to OE though, as I'm no longer getting duplicated emails in my inbox everytime. As for Windows Mail, it never had DAV support like OE, so I couldn't use it anyway......

Is anyone else having problems with Windows Live Mail?

    It's so slow!

Often when I am done reading incoming mail, and try to close the windows, everything freezes. No response. And there is a small window saying that it is "removing messages from the folder". Takes forever, and can't be discontinued.

I've used wlm on many different computers and never had any of these issues.... Although, for "real" email work, I use outlook 2007.

To stop showing double copies, I'd not hit the send button more than once....
