When I delete files to my recycle bin, no icons or anything show up in my recycle bin. But when I click Empty Recycle Bin, I still get a message asking if I want to delete X number of items, but I have no idea exactly what's in the recycle bin.

How do I go about getting the icons and stuff to show up in the recycle bin again so I know exactly what I'm permanently deleting.

    Thanks!

Recycle bin icon (in desktop) shows paper inside when there are files in it, an empty bin when there are no files in the bin.

You have to open the recycle bin to see what items are there in the bin.

The recycle bin icon shows "paper" in the basket when I delete something to it. When I open the recycle bin, there's the stuff I deleted in it, but no icons or anything when I open the recycle bin.

if the program you deleted if still running, it wont delete it, srat up your task manager and close the program and then see if the files you tryed to delete are running.

WinDirStat - WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics is a v ery useful utility that should show you what files are in your recycle bin (and everywhere else).

Sometimes, it can also delete files from the recycle bin that the usual empty button will not.

@Nankuru...under what conditions does the recycle bin NOT delete files? I remember vaguely that I have encountered this when I was still using XP. But it has never happened to me while using Vista or Win 7.
