Hi Everyone
I have a question regarding how to check the running processes that uses HDD, my problem is even when I idling, my HDD/CD light indicator is still blinking non-stop, so the HDD is generated a lot of heat up to 56 - 58 degree Celius (Using MobileMeter).
I have used Ewido, Microsoft Antispyware to use it as a tool to remove spyware, so I believe there is no spyware running in the background.
I have 512MB RAM, and I think that it is sufficient that there won't be a lot of swap files between RAM and HDD when idling
Thanks in Advance

Well, I know there is athird party program that does this, but I forgot the name.
As a last resrot, you can always press control-alt-delete and then click on Processes, and it lists what is running. -
What about anti-virus or defrag software? Do you have either of those that could be running?
-
yup... could be a/v, defrag, screensaver, downloading (bitorrent/p2p), fileserving, etc.
is your machine new? old? fresh install? bloatware? any newly installed software? has this always happened or just started recently?
like soldat said, task manager to see what processes are running. -
I use AVG free version for anti-virus software, zonealarm for firewall, Microsoft AntiSpyware all running in the background.
I check out Window Processes and Windows Idle Process takes out 97% CPU process, so not much CPU usage on any specific prgram, but not sure if any program uses HDD for swap file?
I have done reformat on my computer for 2 weeks ago, and I have install all the antispyware first before connecting to the internet.
I have Defrag program running everyday during night time, but I don't think this is the problem -
Hi Everyone
I have disable one process at a time to find out that it is MobileMeter that cause the continuous blinking of HDD/CD light indicator, since I set the interval on displaying option into 0.5 sec, now I have set it to 30 sec to refresh.
I will see how that affect of the hard disk temperature.
Thanks -
ohh, have you heard of windows auto-repair? I read somewhere that windows repairs itself it's the PC is idle. Do a search, may be that's why there's HDD activity..
