Productivity software similar to Outlook 2007?

I am looking for something similar to Outlook 2007 for email, calendar, to do list/reminds type of stuff. So far the closest thing I found is Gmail but I'm looking for something that's easily accessible, possibly without the browser. Something that's just always running in the background and letting me know what my schedule is like if that makes sense.

    Any suggestions?

I haven't. Is it generally recommended? Light on resources?

I wouldn't say light on resources, but it's on par if not a bit better with resource management. It's pretty good though, it can do most everything Outlook can do. You can try Windows Live Mail which is just watered down, and does the same thing, does have Calendar management. Only downsides are it's only really integrated with their Windows Live Services.

Just tried it out for a few minutes. I'm assuming that the calendar feature comes in the form of an add on?

Ok I've been using it for a few hours now. Not bad so far, I have it running in the background in the system tray.

Now my question is can you use Thunderbird for syncing calenders with iPod touches/iPhones? And other smartphones like say BB? I sync my iPod touch with Outlook 07 but not sure if this will work for Thunderbird.

Our mantra around the office was: Thunderbird is just like Outlook, except that it works. :D

The thing is I like everything about Outlook, it's just so damn slow and problematic.

I like Thunderbird less but it's like you said - it works. Also Thunderbird sucks up nearly 3 times as many resources when it's running in the background. Gotta put that RAM to use somehow I guess.

Yeah, I do wish Outlook was a tad bit faster. If only people quit complaining about how much free memory they have. Otherwise Outlook could suck up all that extra RAM and speed itself up.

Resource spotters. They think they can learn everything there is to know about computer programming by watching Task Manager for a few seconds. You realize that Microsoft is going to eventually gimp Task Manager cause everyone misuses it....
