I had a program once that forced me to crop a screenshot every time I saved it. That was annoying.

I want a program that I can do a specific keyboard shortcut to specifically ask me to crop it but when I just press print screen normally just takes the whole screen.

    What should I get?

    I have windows 8

I just print screen, paste it in Irfanview, and crop from there. Snipping tool is useful too as mentioned.

Tip - pressing alt-prtscn captures just the active window.

+1 on the Snipping Tool. I use it daily for screen captures.

I don't think it can auto save to a location, you have to manually save it to the location you specify.

Did you look at Snagit that is a very good paid program to do screen shot and crop those shots.

Sort of one of those awesome features included in windows that doesn't get the attention it deserves. If you are using OneNote, there is a similar tool that is part of OneNote functionalities, great for adding screenies in OneNote.

Snagit, Screenpresso, PrintScreenKey, Jing, and the Windows Snipping Tool
I have used all those and more, but those are my favorite ones.

Screenpresso is especially up there since I often do markups for guides/documentation Jing used to be up there till they started to offer the "pro" version and the free version nags you some.

Which ones will let me just use a keyboard key or two to initiate a rectangular cropping? I still want printscreen to stay a full screen screenshot. I just want another keyboard shortcut to do rectangular.

Snipping tool is alright. But you have to click on the program each time for a new snip!

Dude, just learn to code already and write your own tool. Your needs are far too niche/lazy. Is clicking that hard?

I have a ton, yes a ton, (metric ton actually) of stuff to unload by hand (in 55-lb. bags) and stack in a corner tomorrow afternoon. Clicking isn't that hard, get over it.

For the record, the metric ton has arrived and been unloaded and neatly stacked (one person job, roughly 30 minutes). The first ton is easy, it's the last 200 lbs. that are a pain...
