My mom just got an HP C5550 printer and she needs a program that allows you to create an image to print on the CD face. The problem with most of the software we've tried is that it only prints labels or is too limiting (we have to adhere to the format the template gives us) If anyone can give me a program that can do something like this, then it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

I did that once long time ago with one of my friend’s printers, but can’t remember what program I used. All I remember was that it accepted bitmap images (and had its own templates which were too limited like in your case), so I created everything using normal graphics tools and imported it from the printing program. Doesn’t yours support that?

I downloaded the Surething software ages ago before they start charging for it but it has developed quite a lot but I can recommend it because even this old software works lovely, perhaps you can look around and find some old versions of the software that may still be free if you dont want to pay for it

Isn't there some sort of HP program that came with the printer? Surely if it is a cd printer it would?

I still have the installation file for SureThing SE4 Lightscribe Edition (freeware). Its a really good program.

Not sure if it can print directly into CD's though.

Though i do use one in the office with my Pixma printer. I cant remember the name so i will let you know on Monday.

Turns out you can only use the software i use for Canon printers.

Have you tried installing the software that came with your printer? HP photosmart should have an option to print directly to the disc.

I could have sworn I already posted something about that. Maybe I forgot to hit the submit reply button, haha. The software that came with HP is too limiting. I need something that allows complete artistic freedom.

Cant you just use photoshop to make the design and paste it into the HP CD printer program then print it out?

Not that I'm aware of; my mom is rather...illiterate with computers. She's got a couple of trial programs on the computer now; I'll let you know how it works out.
