DBAN won't work with my computer.

Anybody know a program that's similar or maybe better?

Preferably something that can be booted off USB.

What do you mean DBAN won't work? Try burning the ISO to a disk and booting your computer off the disk.

If that still doesn't work, you can try Eraser.

The Free Windows Software stickie lists Eraser under miscellaneous system tools.

DVD drive is broken (sending computer back... reason for wipe), apparently my chipset isn't supported (as somebody told me in the Dell forum), and any method I tried with USB did not work.

I'll give Eraser a try, thanks crash and shyster1.

Otherwise you can also use KillDisk as an alternative for DBAN.
It can be installed on an USB-stick but you'll need to be able to boot from the USB stick to make it work.
    Cheers.

All right, I'm giving that a try now.
