Well, I have played some things on my new WXSGA + screen, and it looks really nice. It's wonderful, I have never had a HD screen before. But now I have some questions. I have been researching about Progressive Scan, and know that my monitor is capable of playing 1080i video, but when I put in a dvd, the dvd is playing an interlaced video produced on a really nice screen screen capable of 1080i. While the DvD does still looks very nice (interlaced content on a HD screen), I was wondering if there was any application I could download that would allow the dvd to produce images in high definition, instead of just using a monitor that produces HD images. Anyone knowledgable in this field, care to help me out? Is that what Divx HD is? Thank you very much.

If you want your DVD to output a High Definition image, you will need a HD DVD player, which will upscale the DVD to HD quality and is available on the market for around £100 or more.
DivX HD is compression. With DivX HD you will be able to compress HD quality videos into sizes small enough to be streamed on the internet, but not lose much quality.

So there is no way to play a dvd in High Definition on a computer yet, unless you are playing an HD dvd?

your post is confusing, but if you're asking what i think you're asking, then the hardware doesn't matter if the source isn't filmed in HD.

What I meant is that, all dvd's released right now, unless marked as some special high definition dvd, are not hd, in fact, their resolution is quite low. Only the size of a standard tv, but then, you ask, how are they shown in HD? Well two things make true HD. An HD lcd/tv and Progressive Scan. Progressive scan is a technique used to transfer non-hd dvds (aka, regular dvds) into a format that makes them look like a high resolution, so when played on a HD display device, they look great. HD dvd's don't need progressive scan to look nice, but regular dvds do, in my opinion. Anyway, I was wondering whether any progressive scan software or applications are available for download, so we don't have to watch standard size 420p dvds on our way nice HD displays.

Or have a DVD player with the ability to upscale your DVD (I don't think one currently exists for the PC).
