    Hi,

I was wondering what exactly is the point of the intel matrix storage manager, often referred to as the RAID controller or something. Obviously only a few laptops can even configure any sort of RAID (mine doesn't). So is there a point to installing it? What are the advantages?

I heard that it improves how your hard drives perform.
I didn't test this out. maybe run hdtune before and after to see what happens.

It's mainly for RAID for computers that support it... but even with one drive I've found I get better hard drive performance with MSM installed than without it (according to HD Tune). Some others have reported the opposite. Still others may not see a difference. I suggest running HD Tune both ways to find out what works best for your computer.

Intel matrix storage manager's purpose is to monitor RAID enabled hard drives and notify if there are any problems. I haven't noticed any peformance gains with my SATA controller due to the manager running. You can change it's service startup type to "manual".
