Hey so I was in the market 4 XP pro this christmas, and figured i'd get the 139.99 dollar version on newegg.com. but while searching, I realized that there are many different versions of XP pro, at 200 dollars, 300 dollars, 2700, etc. why the price difference??? am i going to miss out on something basic by getting the cheap version?

Might be differences if its retail or oem. Also how many licenses there are with the purchase.

Get the 139.99 version. The only thing with this version is it is tied to the system you put it on(you can't install it on another PC) & you don't recieve support from MS.

also, sometimes they sell license packages, say for 5 computers at a time. Usually, OEM copies are cheaper than retail copies, you're only missing out on the fancy packaging (in Vistas case) or some documentation that you usually don't need. Go with OEM whenever possible because they are cheaper and you are getting the same product as retail.

actually, what's really missing is support from Microsoft and the ability to legally transfer the license to another computer. not an issue for many people, but these are the two biggest things you don't get with oem versions.
