I'm looking for a decent quad threaded video converter. I've found one (xilosoft) that will do 4 different files with a thread per, but the max I've come across for converting a single file is 2 threads active, which is HIGHLY annoying. Does anyone know a good converter that'll work? I've tried handbrake, iwisoft, kigo, TE4, and a fair few others.

already tried all of those suggestions, and none of them worked in the way I asked for in my OP, thanks though.

Maybe I misread your post. You want a program that will do a video converting for each core. Try http://www.dvdvideosoft.com and get one of their freeware video converting. I used to use this program a lot and I would have two instances of this program running at the same time (one for each core) converting two different videos.

you did misread my post. I said I found one that will assign a core to each video, what I need is one that will use all 4 cores encoding a single video.

Hmm.... I am not real sure. I thought that AVS did, but maybe not.

I use convert x to dvd. Easy, simple to use, and pretty sure its a multi threaded app

Handbrake most certainly will use a 4 threads to encode a single video. I check the CPU usage on my desktop and it's pegging all 4 cores on it. Heck, it'll even do all 4 "cores" on my i5 in the Envy. Make sure you set the threading to auto or 4 threads to get it to work.

I've tried setting the threads to auto and 4 and a CPU priority of HIGH, and the maximum CPU utilization I get is 50%.

Perhaps it's your source or your encoding options then? Handbrake will saturate a processor though.

WinFF supports FFmpeg's multi threading for dual core processors
and then in FFmpeg options you can enter the number of cores you want to run. It's 1 or 2 by default, I can't remmeber because I always had mine set on two but you can edit that value and enter 4.

Handbrake is a very good video converter also.

I use convertxtodvd and you can change how many cores it uses in the settings the default is 2, but it`s not free.

Whether or not the encoding you are interested in can be performed in a fully multi-threaded fashion depends on what kind of decoding/encoding is involved. Some formats do not lend themselves easily to parallelization, which limits how many cores can be used efficiently.

E.g. Mpeg2 only allows single threaded operations
