I'm searching for a quality free defragger for windows 8 64 bit. Something that's not invasive and lite would be nice. (ie. no spyware conduits etc...) Any advice?
I was thinking about the Auslogics, but I had read quite a few reports of them not supporting sudden stops in the defrag process unless you had purchased the full version, and them including spyware conduits and the like.
Anybody?

what's inadequate with the windows defragmenter? genuinely curious...

defraggler if its a hard disc drive and dont need one if its a ssd.
but as mentioned the in built windows defrag does the job but you just cant see the ikkle boxes being moved about. -
But we like to see the little data boxes moving around. I like to imagine there's a little dude in my data warehouse dutifully organizing all my data in the most efficient manner for me.

defraggler it is then

I guess he/she must have lots of time to waste watching those little data boxes moving around. Wait till he/she gets a 5 Terabyte hard drive and sits there for days watching those data boxes.
But to each his own. -

What about the free Auslogics DiskDefrag? I've used that one along side the stock defrag utilities in Windows XP and Windows 7. I don't bother adding them to Windows 8 to be honest. I've noticed Auslogics DiskDefrag finishes the job faster too. It does a defrag and an "optimize" and can even shut down the PC after the defragmentation process is complete. What or how it optimizes I am not sure. Some times though, I wonder if these free defrag tools are actually better or worse than what Microsoft has provided.
I lol'd at the comment regarding the little boxes moving. I can agree but I also would not sit there and watch the whole thing from start to finish. -
Lol, I have an external driave array with 3 1.5TB drives sitting in it. Trust me, I don't watch the defrag process on that.
Actually, I haven't even installed a 3rd party defrag utility since Windows 2000 when I used to use Disk Keeper Pro. -

So which defrager did you like best.

I would only defrag if you want to control where your data goes on the disc. Otherwise built in Windows defragger does it for what it feels is best for Windows.

Well for a long time I've used the built in Windows defragmentor. But I also like to see where stuff goes and watch the little blocks move around.
So this is the one I like the best http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.php
Second best would be Defraggler from Piriform. -
