First of all, I would like to say Hello to the forum. I have been a fan for NBR for many years now and visit the site almost daily. When it comes to computer problems, I usually found solutions through Google. However, the one I have now is a tough one. Here goes....I recently been experiencing quite frequent BSODs from my ati x1400 in my T60. It started with the NMI Memory Parity, but after various attempted solutions, it resulted in other BSOD as well. So I decided to disable for good, since I don't game at all and I don't use any graphic-intensive applications. As many may know that the video card is embedded onto the motherboard, so I can't just remove the hardware itself. With the ati video card disable, I'll be using the windows-included vgasafe driver as my display driver. Everything works at all, but here's the problem; The resolution is stuck at 1024X768 in my 15in 1280X800 Widescreen. Everything looks so deformed. I tried the solution that I googled recommended to modifying the registry, but it didn't work at all. Is the vgasafe driver not capable of supporting that resolution? Or is there any workaround? Any comments are appreciated.

Im pretty sure the VGA driver is only capable of displaying aspect ratios of 4:3 (unless modified). Since all non W_GA resolutions are set to 4:3. Your screen is 16:10 so that's why everything gets streched. I don't know what you tried modifying the registry to, but you might want to just adjust it so neither your vertical or horizontal pixels exceed 1024x768(ie: try setting it to 1024x640) It's still going to look blocky or blurry, but at least it wont be streched out anymore. Good luck!

The graphics driver built in to Windows doesn't support widescreen (as far as I know)... you need to use the ATI driver. Be sure to get an up-to-date version of it though.
