What exactly does it stand for? Service Pack or something like that? Or is it a whole new OS...? (Where may I find some info about this maybe?)

Yeah, it's Service Pack, and generally, MS Update will download it automatically when it is released. (And they tend to get enough publicity that you'll know when they're released anyway)

Microsoft has a page on their website with roadmaps for all their products, showing which service packs are out, and which are in development, and when they're planned for release... But I don't have the url here... ;)

Personally, I would be curious to know what MS intends to fix in Vista SP1...is there a list of some sorts, because I'd like to give the OS another shot if my issues were supposedly resolved.

A Service Pack is basically a collection of updates to various parts of an Operating System (or other software). For instance, instead of buying a new computer and having to download 63 updates (not even a little joking), you could just download 1 service pack and some hardware updates and be done.

Occasionally, these service packs will include feature updates in addition to hotfixes. A good example is Service Pack 2 for Windows XP including Windows Security Center.

I wonder if it'll enable Vista to have the same level of DPI support XP has had for the past seven years.

I don't think there is an official list yet, but someone posted here earlier with an unofficial one. Which sounded a bit fishy to me, but eh... :)
