Hey guys, I bought my I6000 w/ MCE and the TV tuner from eBay, would the TV tuner work with XP Pro? Is there much of a difference between XP Pro and MCE?

Do any of you all have the Tuner? Is it pretty decent?

    Thanks

MCE is basicly xp pro with a tivo and a more ease of use media player for casual pc owners that don't need alot of customization options for music, pictures and videos. Everything is exactly the same as xp pro until you start MCE. It's not a completely different os; really just xp pro with a do-all media program installed.
I can't say how good the tuner is cuz i skipped out on that option, though i wish i didn't because without the tuner you miss out on the tv options.

It depends on what tuner you have. There are some freeware tuner applications that MAY work with yours (I have zero experience with the tuner that Dell sells).

Microsoft wants you to think that MCE is just XP-Pro with the mediacenter app, but realistically, there are some .dll differences between the two OS. It's all "under the hood", so no big worries.

You can certainly try some tuner apps and see if it works for you: http://www.tv-cards.com/apps.php

Tuner software is already integrated into MCE 2005 when you order the tuner. You don't need any other tv apps. If you didn't order the tuner hardware then just buy one seperately and make sure it is windows media center certified so the software integates the tv/dvr options into the MCE interface. Dell ships the hauppage Wintv usb tuner with their mce notebooks.
