I am new to these fourms and some help would be awesome. Okay, I cant disable Speedstep through my Bios, so I downloaded NHC. My question is, how do I disable Speedstep through NHC. My CPU is always running at 800 MHZ and its a Centrino 1.7 GHZ. So, what do I need to do through NHC to get my laptop running at 1.7 GHZ instead of 800 MHZ. Thank you.

BTW, I am running Vista Home Premium OS on it.

Just because it is running at 800MHz isn't bad. Just leave it at the Balanced setting at it will speed up if you need more power.
-
But just for the sake of it, how do I manually turn it up using NHC?

Download Prime95 and tell me if it's still stuck at 800Mhz.

SpeedStep prevents your laptop from overheating. -
In the power options. Click on 'performance'.

The only way it works is if I select the voltage tab, and select 13 as the multiplier and set the voltage at 1.308 V, then it works, but I dont assume that by doing that is safe, is it??

If you're using a program that demands that much power, your CPU will automatically clock up to 1.7Ghz. I don't see a legitimate reason to make your CPU work at 1.7Ghz all the time. You're only shortening its life-span if you do.

So should I just leave my settings at "Balanced" and whenever my CPU needs more power, it will up the power itself?
-
Absolutely...this is the idea behind speedstep. There is no reason to want to run at full power all the time, as said before this will increase CPU heat and power draw. As soon as it is needed speedstep will increase your CPU to max speed for as long as it is necessary and then it will "on the fly" slow back down to its lowest speed. So just leave the setting at "balanced" and you will be fine.
