Some more info would help:
1. Where did you get the MCE update from? Usually, it comes pre-installed. I've seen MCEs for sale. If you got it from a reputable source, it should be OK. But it's rare to find folks who upgrade to MCE.
2 How did you do the upgrade? What is your previoius OS?
3. Did you do an upgrade or a clean install? -
my stepdad has an msdn account, so he downloaded it straight from microsoft. I had windows xp standard on my laptop when i bought it in 2005... the I upgraded (I guess) to the mc edition... but I guess it didnt work.

OK. From a little research, it looks like "upgrading" from XP to MCE has been problematic for a lot of people.
The best resource for MCE and related problems is a forum called The Green Button. You can find the forum here: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/default.aspx?GroupID=18
A couple of other places I found that discussed it (old topics and apparently related to XP Pro) talk about hacking the registry to get it to work, with the very real possibility of wrecking everything.

I'd recommend The Green Button in addition to what the folks here at NBR can offer. Good forum, lots of MS folks, friendly. -
sweet thanks dude... youre awesome...

Did you do a clean install or did your install it over your XP home? That is usually the cause of the problem as it will have 2 sets of XP on your machine and not as 2 separate bootable OS.

I installed over xp... thats probably the problem. I figured it would just replace the old windows... gay.
