I want to ask a question about formating my computer with Windows XP. My current Windows is Windows XP

In the Bios setting i set the Boot sequence from 1st to 3rd as CD, HardDrive, Floppy.

I tried shutting and restarting many time it doesn't work. The message that comes up before the windows with the little loading bar at the bottom start just say "Boot CD: (blank)" where the blank is there is no words or anything there. is there a button i have to press? i tried F12 but it doesn't work and also enter.

If i boot from the 6 floppy disk .. is it the same process as formating the computer With the CD or kinda like formating windows 98? i have experienced formating windows 98 many times with my old computer lol

If i format the computer with the 6 floppy should the 3 sequence should be 1st floppy, 2nd CD and 3rd Hard drive?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I think the problems is with you CD, or your CD-ROM's reading ability. It is asking for the boot cd (by showing Boot CD: ), so it means everything in the BIOS has been done properly.

And no, you don't have to press anything, it will ask you to press a key when it finds a bootable CD.

    Hi,

Yea it's a copied CD but i copied it from my own as a back up because i usually misplace or scratch the original (have kids) and my daughter scratched the original sometime ago so lucily i have a back up of the original.

But after stating up the computer, i eject the drive with the cd still inside then insert it back again, it loads the cd properly though.

    so you might be right.

So, now i am planning to use the 6 Boot disc that i just borrowed from my neighbor. Can you briefly tell me how to go from there? If the booting from disc won't work where else could i go from? I still have the legal Serial key when i bought the original Windows XP

Hi fido_fido. If the CD is fine, please try to use a different CD-ROM for your computer. That is all I can think of. And if you get it working, I will surely help you from there.

    Hi,

you were right about the CD drive. I bought a new DVD drive and installed it this morning, and it loaded find.

Before i continue, i was wondering if the process of formating with windows xp is the same as Windows 98 except XP starts out with the CD not a floppy? .. if not can someone Guide me?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Dear fido_fido!

I'm glad you got a new DVD-ROM and it worked. I don't know what the procedure was for installing Windows 98, because I never did that. But I can help you with Windows XP's installation. The link posted above by R4000, for some reason, did not open for me, after many tries. So, here is another link which shows how to install Windows XP, with images. It is by one of the best reviewers of Microsoft products, so I don't think you'll run into any problems. However, should you have any problems, please post here, and I'll try my best to help you.
