I ordered a Dell 640m. I have heard a lot of junk applications come preinstalled on this laptop, so my question is as follows.

I added the Windows XP recovery CD to my purchase.....can I do a fresh install with this CD?

If I can do a fresh install, does the recovery CD also install the useless programs im trying to get rid of in the first place?

I just want a fresh clean copy of Windows on my computer, is that too much to ask Dell???? :(

Yes you can use the disc to do fresh install. Dell does not include recover discs any more. It is not on your HDD, but you can delete that. No, if you use the XP disc, you'll get a clean install - no junkware outside of the standard programs that come with XP.

Check out the formatting guide (link in sig) and it will give you everything that you need to know about formatting a dell laptop. Its a bit lengthy, but it literally goes over everything that you need to know for formatting a dell (including the actual XP format process ).
