Hello, the name's Jeff, I'm relatively new to this forum, and I while I know a bit more than the average person in terms of computers there is still a buttload I don't know (especially in terms of software). That said, I don't know if any of this plays a factor, but I'll go over the basics just in case:

HP Compaq Presario C700 Notebook, Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit), Intel Pentium Dual CPU - T2310 @ 1.46GHz

Anyway, I'm trying to brush up on my computer knowledge since I'll be shipping off to college in a few months and I've decided to work on my laptop as my "hands on" training. In terms of sound devices, here's what I'm working with:

    Conexant HD-Audio SmartAMC HD2

    Speakers (working)
    Built-in Microphone (disabled)
    WaveOut Mix (currently unavailable)

I believe the microphone is as simple as enabling/disabling it depending on if I need it or not, but what is "WaveOut Mix?" Also, how often should one update their drivers? I keep hearing that, but I don't know if it's automatic or if you sometimes have to do it manually.

I'll be looking in the "noob" section of the forum for any other helpful information. Thanks for any and all help, guys :D
