Hey folks, I'm trying to run disckcheck on an xps m1530. However the command needs to be entered as chkdsk volume:/f....the thing is that i need to italicize the word "volume"...how do I do this?...I know it's rookie stuff, but I've been up all night and I'm completely jammed..Thanks![]()

I believe that this " volume" means the drive (C: D: etc ..) that you want to run the checking.
cheers ... -
You are correct sir...now when I enter the drive to check, it tells me would i like to check upon restart <Y/N>...I enter Y....but when I restart it it wont check...what do you think?

What OS?
You could boot from XP CD, go to recovery console and run the chkdsk /r C:\ (just as an example)
If you have Vista, boot from the DVD and click on Repair your computer when you are given the opportunity. You can then run the command prompt and run your chkdsk there. -
you type sfc/ SCANNOW i think..
Question for command entry on the command line.
