I like to listen to music on Youtube. I have my computer connected to an audio interface, which is connected to my main stereo system. The sound quality is very respectable, but I am noticing tiny dropouts the last little while, essentially very short stutters, perhaps three or four per song. It's incredibly distracting. The computer I'm using is a bit older but I don't believe it is the source of the problem. It's a Dell Precision M4800 with an i7 processor. These stutters occur even when the music videos contain no actual video but just a still shot. I thought there was buffering technology involved in video playback that's supposed to prevent this kind of thing from happening.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are there any solutions, or is there some settings I should try adjusting? I'd like to hear what others have to say about this. Any insight would be appreciated.

That sounds more like a ISP problem rather then a site issue. Since no one has the link to what your testing or hardware or ISP connection to test that problem isn't something that can be solved on here indirectly. Also depends on what your doing on the internet and what Browser or Plugins are running contribute to the issue. So this is why trying to solve such issue here is problematic at best unless another has the same setup to verify where the problem is coming from. Streaming anything online is problematic especially video streaming that becomes taxing on system resources.

Am spending lots of music time on yt, via browser(s), very often using 3g or 4g hotspot for my laptop(s), can't even remember having had any dropout for months or years, static pic or not. To avoid spending gb's, and to keep bandwidth for other activities, am always going for 144p, zero impact on music, and can minimize bandwidth use by 5x or 10x compared to higher settings.
Am sometimes in places getting only 1 to 3 mb\s connection, still fine music buffering\streaming. btw, also got an old celeron laptop, bottom of the hardware ladder, yt is doing fine.
Watch the buffering, should always be some minutes ahead, if not the network\router\isp etc in use is not delivering (not a yt problem).Attached Files:

Slow DSL here and no lag for Youtube music videos.

I have Fiber and have no network issues besides if they go down for Service or Network outage that is beyond control. But if your data plan is small that could contribute as well. So as I said since no one is there at your location with your same network/hardware setup what your asking for others is a needle in haystack problem. I have Dell 1525 T8100 and it hasn't had issue with YT videos on Wifi.

Thanks for the replies. I tried watching with an ethernet cable connected rather than with wifi, and the problem vanished. Now my router (supplied by my ISP) is probably less than two years old, and we've got pretty fast speed, around 800 Mbps up and 300 Mbps down, so I cannot imagine what the problem is.

Question for those who critically listen to a lot of music videos on Youtube.
