Hey guys, the acpi driver on windows controls the mount of power it will supply the laptop components. Most if not all laptops come with an acpi driver. What if i take a thinkpad acpi driver and install it on my laptop? Will it work? Will i get more battery runtime?

ACPI drivers are optimized for the manufacturers laptops and I would not advise using a ThinkPad ACPI driver for your laptop. It's really no difference for GPU's. If you have an nvidia 9xxx GPU, you wouldn't want to use a driver for an 8 series GPU driver or even worse try and install an ATI driver. It's always best to use each mfg set of drivers.

The only exception is a universal AHCI, graphics or sound drivers. I'm running the nvidia driver on my laptop instead of using Dell's outdated driver.

edit: The Microsoft ACPI drivers do a nice enough job. What laptop do you have btw other than your mac?

i only have this mac but i wanted to know the effect of installing an acpi driver from another laptop. These drivers are easily found on the web. Thanks. I would have done a big mistake today.

Stick with the stock ACPI drivers from Windows 7, check device manager -> system devices, you should see 5 listed there.

The best way to increase battery life is to tweak your power options via control panel.

yeah, i've seen them. Apple does not supply its own acpi driver for windows i believe because i dont see any apple acpi driver. Btw, do you know any program which can be used to optimise battery runtime? Like the thinkvantage that lenovo thinkpads use?
