Im going to cut down on a few services in vista to try improve performance a bit. i've read http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm
which seems like an excellent article! Has anyone copied BV's service configuration? Any problems?
For xp i remember there were files for download from blackviper.com that would auto adjust your services, that way if you ran into a problem it was quickly reversible.
Doesn't seem like he's offering that anymore. Any input?

Service tweaking is a mixed bag. You have to look at the service to determine if you need it or not, example wireless. I dont use it so I disabled it, but some do. I usually read the description and make the choice. I have extensive knowledge about service tweaking so if there is one in particular then post a question here on this thread and Ill answer it.

Those look a little extreme and leave you vulnerable. I've used these settings and safely removed unwanted services I don't need.

Black Viper's site is good and can really help out with removing some of the memory hogging that vista creates. Yes it does leave you vulnerable if you don't have AV and spyware software running. if you stay on top of that stuff, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to Services.

Again, if you are unsure about a service, then post a question. Some of the services that are enabled or set to manual leave you vulnerable if you don't turn them off.

a good way or checking the services running on your computer is via
www.fileresearchcenter.com
if you use this in conjuction with the various articles about trimming running processes/services /programs it might help identify some of the more obscure ones for you. -
*I have a question, I have a gateway laptop with the webcam built in. I made a video and I am have trouble emailing the video. When I attach the file (video), it takes forever to attach - then I receive the message of page not displayed. It's like the video is too long. When I used my desktop with a wireless webcam, I had no trouble. Can anyone help me? Thanks
