Hi all. I recently went through my computer and deleted a lot of old documents and folders from a semester ago and, with all the talk of how to improve system performance and speeding things up, I thought that I can probably get some space back by deleting the indexed/start search items. I thought that by deleting the items, the entries would be deleted, but this does not appear to be the case. Would trying to delete the items in the index/start search that free up any space at all?

Have you ran CCleaner? This will show exactly how much space it will clear and which files will go

I ran CCleaner, but it did not rid my system of the index entries. I will check my configuration and then get back with you.

Update: Nothing happened with CCleaner. All of the entries to the deleted files are still there when I type them into the Start Search bar.

Uncheck the box to index the drive and click ok, then recheck it and hit ok again.

I don't really expect a few entries in the search index to take up any significant amount of disk space. But if finding deleted items is annoying you, you can try Nizzy's suggestion.

I wonder whether or when it would remove the deleted entries from the index automatically as part of the indexing process.

EDIT: Here's another way to rebuild the index: Go to Control Panel > Sys & Maint > Indexing Options > Advanced. In the Index Settings tab, click the "Rebuild" button.

Thank you all very much. Swarmer, I didn't really expect them to be taking up that much space either. I guess I'm just a little obsessive about it, though.
