    I just got this email from "google" earlier

    Google rarely contacts Gmail users via email, but we are making an exception to let you know that due to malicious attacks on our database, We have decided to upgrade our database system with enhanced security and as a result of this security upgrade, we require you to verify your Information. Failure to verify your information might result in account suspension. Please click the reply button and fill the below spaces as requested. Learn more

    they even have a comma in place of a period...
    why is Information capitalized in the middle of a sentence
    and what kind of english is "mandatory announcement"

    the person who wrote this didnt even bother to spellcheck

    if google really wanted to contact you through their own service, they would use a more sophisticated means than sending mail through their own service. maybe a popup, a link, or simply a message on top of the gmail site

    The first line suggests they were trying to spoof the recent email about about Google Buzz Class Action Settlement.

    Also, the email address used is probably fake(it should end with a @google.com like '[email protected]'.

    Actually, this is because of a recent lawsuit. Google sent a similar email to this, someone has taken advantage of this and has begun sending spam/ scam emails.

    Yeah, it did felt strange when I was reading it.

    You're right! the reply address had classaction in it.

    Very simple, tehy would have read all of your stuff, sent out emails from your email address probably containing more scams/ viruses, and they would have used accumulated information to steal your identity! =p Google will never ask for your email or password.
