I have a question. I want to rip my personally owned dvd movies to my hard drive, edit out all the foul language, burn back to a dvd without losing any quality. It is what the TV networks do when showing movies. Can someone tell how to do this and what software to use. Thanks. I hope this isn't illegal because they are my dvds that I bought with my money.

You can use DVD Shrink to rip them, MediaCoder to convert them to videos, generic video editor like Windows Movie Maker to edit out the bad words, and then finally either Movie Maker + this guide or, if you have Vista/7, the included DVD Maker software to convert back to DVD.

I don't want to lose quality, will this above work?
-
Yes. But expect the videos to be huge.
-
Will they fit on a DVD?
-
What video format should I use? mpeg, avi, dv, .....
-
Er, AVI works with DVD Maker, I'm pretty sure.
-
Expect to lose quality with Windows Movie Maker...
-
Well, not necessarily. You could export movies in somewhat lossless formats from Movie Maker. It would be damn huge, but yeah...
-
What are the lossless formats?

That's why I said to use Mediacoder to convert them to video files.

Getting the movie off and then back on the DVD is a cinch. I use DVD FAB. DVD Shrink also works.
Editing them is the hard part. I usually just ask a friend and bribe em with free drinks on the weekend. -
My main thing is losing the DVD quality.
