I'm thinking about buying a laptop, and want vista ultimate. Most come with HP as standard so I'm considering getting an anytime upgrade. I'm worried that it will effect the performance, like when updating XP to vista (keeping all of the XP files making everything run slow as well as taking up extra HDD space). So basically I want to know: Will this slow down my pc, and Will it be possible to do a clean install onto ultimate (without installing HP first)?

Thanks in advance for any help

You will need to purchase Windows Ultimate on top of the computer. But this will not slow down your computer. When you install an operating system, unless you're setting up dual-boot, you will format your HDD.
