I have my new machine set up with XP on a single hard drive with 3 partitions. I don't want to mess with my partitions or risk anything on the current hard drive or OS install. I thought I could buy a second hard drive and install it, install 7 on the second hard drive, then through my BIOS I could tell the computer which hard drive I want to boot from.

    1. Can I boot from the second hard drive without going through the BIOS?

    2. If I boot 7 from the second hard drive, does that have an affect on the drive letters for the 3 partitions on the original hard drive?

    1. Yes, you can. When you install 7 on the 2nd hard drive, when you boot your computer up, it will notice both OS's and ask you which one you want to boot.

    2. When you boot 7, your primary drive will be (C), and your XP will become (D) but they won't be affected, the other partition letters should stay the same.
