I just installed Win7!!!! I love it, coming from a long time XP user. Anyway, I activated the Quick Launch toolbar because I didn't like how some of the pinned icons turn into windows (firefox), and some don't. It's just annoying.

The problem is, when I make the icons small, they're too hard to see. When I make them large, they push up my whole task bar creating a gap under all the window things. I am one to move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to click these, which is not possible with a gap there.

    Visuals:

    small icons

    large icons

Anyone have a fix for this? Maybe I will go back to pinned icons, only if I can keep them from moving around.

The cool thing with the pinned item is that you can run them with Win key + #...
For instance, looking at your task bar:
    - Win + 1, will open (or appear in front if already opened) iTunes
    - Win + 2, will open Firefox and so on, up to 10 (0 on your keyboard)

Another trick I do, is pine items on the start menu, so that they are always there...
As for program I run less often, I just use search:
Win key > type: f > ENTER -> Firefox opens
Win key > type: w > ENTER -> Word opens
Win key > type: fl > ENTER -> Flash opens

it's a great way to open really quickly all your programs in your computers, even files directly!

The way it works is that pressing the Win key, open the start menu, when you type just like that, it types automatically in the search box. Most ran application appears on top of list, which is the item that is selected by default. Hitting Enter selects it. As this is instant search, your don't need to wait for the results. It's literally instant, even on a slow computer. if you see a delay, that is just Windows loading the icons of each program to show in the list.. but the result is there so you don't need to wait if you know the first item on the list.
