In Win7 Home Prem, the Quick Launch seems to have disappeared since XP. How do I get my beloved convenient friend back?

This might help you...

Follow instructions in the link above to get back your quicklaunch bar. However, give the superbar a chance. You can pin anything to it and use it as your quicklaunch bar. To open a new instance of an already open program, just middle-click the icon.

I did Google, but the instructions didn't work. When I tried adding the toolbar back manually, nothing happened. Now I understand how Superbar works, though, which I think might be better than Quick Launch. It's really cool now that I get it.

At first I only used quick launch with Win 7, then started uslng QL and superbar, and after playing with it more, I only use superbar.
It has its limitation, like you cannot use the 'opn with' function with icons on the taskbar, but apart from it it is very nice and useful. -
lol, its so simple.. anyway not your fault for not being a pc guy
but yes, the superbar indeed makes up for quicklaunch
Shift + Rightclick? Hmm, nah open with doesnt seem to be there, but its all programs so what would u want to open it with =D? -
I have an application which downloads subtitles for movies. If I put it in QL I could open a folder with a movie and drag the movie onto the icon of my app in QL and it would download subtitles.
I did not have to keep the icon on he desktop, which makes me make the folder with my movie smaller and then drag the movie onto the app shortcut.
There is a way though. On the bar at the top of each window there is an 'Open' menu. The app I use for downloading subtitles is there. I just highlight the movie and go to that menu and click on my ap. Done. Very easy! -

if you shift-drag a file onto the taskbarbutton of your app, then it opens with that app.
and if you drag some folder down to the taskbar on free space, it gets bound to the explorer context menu for quick access.
shortcuts on the desktop are definitely not needed. but it's different, and i'm still getting used to it, myself
