I've never used Quickbooks before, but my mom does for her business. I'm the go-to tech support for my family, but I have no idea what to do in this case. This is what she needs:

Would like you to recover my 2007,2008, 2009 and 2010 info on Quick books. It automatically saves when I enter data, but I've concluded that when I "restore" I've lost the data. I haven't lost it all, but can't figure out how to get to 2007 and 2008.

So sometime soon, could you come over and take my disk, Quick book prgram and copy my desktop icons and recover my data?

Can anyone tell me how to help her?

I don't use Quickbooks, but if it can export the data as a csv or excel file, do that and move the data into the newer version.

It also sounds like she wants you to make her new computer looks just like her old one and transfer all the files. That's easy enough, but be wary - "copy my icons" can be lay-speak for "reinstall all the programs the icons point to"

Also, what is being "restored"? Older versions? Make sure any imported data is saved to new files.

Quickbooks is a pain in the rear. It stores its data files in its program directory from the install I believe, and it also has a function to store backup files.

I'm not really sure what she means by "restore", because of course a restore loses data, if you're overwriting the current file from a previous version. Is she looking to merge old data, or what?

i have been using quickbooks since 2005 for my biz.
what i do is a weekly back up and a yearly back up using quickboks feature either to a disk or flash.
in case you want to reinstall it in another computer just pop the disk/flash and you have everything there.
