When I play HD movies from Quicktime Movie Trailers, I notice a slight but noticeable clipping problem. The best way to describe it is if you have played games with vsync off and the frame rate exceeds the monitor refresh rate, you would notice a clipping problem. I have a similar problem with Quicktime and I have noticed it with other computers too. Is there anyway to fix it? I have the latest Quicktime for Windows 7.6.5, Windows XP SP3, Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8 GHz, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3470 (256 MB VRAM), all latest patches and drivers.

I'm putting my bets on Quicktime.

ATi's drivers sometimes don't like overlays for certain videos either. I've always ben an ATi fan and have only ever used thier video cards and QT vids seem to be the only problem for me. I wonder if you could turn off overlays and see if that helps any.

Just for record's sake, which ATi catalyst drivers are you using *exactly*?

How do I turn off Overlays?

I have Catalyst 9.10. It is the latest one that works with Mobility Modder for XP SP3.

Well, you can't really do it in the CCC if that's what you use. I know only to do it in the player that you're using. Windows Media Player has the option to disable overlays with playback in the tools->options->performance and clicking on the advanced button.

I don't think there is a permanent way to turn it off. I know that overlay capability is able to be turned off within the driver inf, but that would also involve installing the driver over again and I'm sure you wouldn't want to go through all of that.

As far as Quicktime settings, I'm sure there are some options in there, too. I have tried some of those settings before, but I was never able to get them to work for me, though.

You can also turn off acceleration in the display tab of DxDiag.exe.

PS: another way to disable overlay is to open a video in another player, like VLC first. The first program in use will get the overlay mode and the second one is thereby forced to use direct draw or another renderer.
