Does more RAM consume significant power? I've upgraded my laptop from 4 to 8gb and feels like the battery doesn't last as long. It's running Win7 HP x64.

No. RAM can actually increase battery life by limiting the amount of HDD access.

Lithus is right. The more RAM you have the less time your HDD spends being active. And the HDD uses more power than RAM anytime especially when it's actively reading/writing.

My 2GB kingston is rated as 1.8W.

Well you can always remove one of the sticks of RAM and find out. I doubt if you'll be able to notice any difference.
