I was looking at the minimum specs for W7 RC1 x64 and it says 20GB HDD. But I wonder if the final release will use more than that after updates installed. Also, what does Vista x64 usually use with all updates installed? I ask this because I'm thinking of getting an X25-E 32GB (all 32GB is usable) for OS and Apps only. I'm trying to find out how many GB's I'll have left after OS install and updates, to have room for a few applications. It seems like it might be doable, but I just wonder how many apps can squeeze on it.

You should be able to fit all that in 20GB as long as you disable system restore and hibernation.

I run both x32 and x64 7100 on 15Gb virtual disks (VirtualBox). There is about 4 Gb left over after a full install and a trip through Windows Updates.

Yeah alot of people miss that the hibernation file takes as much as your ram, page file as much as the ram. System restore adds up real quick as well.

If there would only be about 4-5gb left after updates etc., then that's just too small. If I could get 8gb ram and turn off pagefile, hibernate, system restore, then maybe it would work.

Win7 RC1 x64 needs 20 gb of hd space? I was thinking 5 gb max...I'm DLing the RC now, and was planning to put it on a 6 gb partition I have...I guess not? Need a bigger partition for this?

64 bit takes more than 5 GB space. I installed it last night. It's no better than Vista IMO. 6 GB is not enough for 64 bit.

You can set the system restore size in Windows 7.

my /windows (x32) is 8 Gb on the desktop machine.

Bottom line, 6 Gb is too small.
