More like AOL driving it to the ground because they can't manage anything.

Does not mean that it will stop working. I will save the installer and keep it backed up. It's still the best and least bloated mp3 player out there especially when using the classic skin :)

I remember using Winamp back in the Windows 98 days. Nostalgic, but never really liked it much... couldn't stand the interface, even when (particularly when?) skinned. Now, I'd be really devastated if Foobar2000 was ever discontinued...

Do not like :( I'm still running Winamp daily @work, streaming music.

Now somebody should make a petition to release source code as open source or something like that.

Won't be gone anytime soon. After using a bunch of Office suites, i can firmly say i still prefer MS Office (2003/2007/2010/2013) to any other alternative. I find LibO to be suckish, even compared to Office 2003. The closest thing i was able to like was Kingsoft Office, however it has poor compatibility.

Meanwhile, iTunes is gaining a monopoly.

Why not use Banshee or Amarok?

same. one of the first things i install after a clean windows setup. i've had the player docked/auto-hidden on the top and playlist docked/auto-hidden on the right since the modern skin was released for W2k.

I have to agree on that is a no frill no nosense setup interface that I like no messy setup but alot of underhood configuration if one goes looking. This is my permanent MP3 player and ripper.

Same here I saved the installer from 5.61 and will keep those to have around. It did a very good job at ripping and making mp3 and creating mp3 folder of my music with name and title and also can burn back to CDA format a plus I like.

That is Open Source it still doesn't come to the level of Winamp was far ahead of it's time and going out this fast isn't good for those that like and use it. I used it since Windows 7 came out and couldn't think otherwise. I looked for other mp3 player and creators and stumbled onto Winamp by accident otherwise I be using Nero 6 to be my player but since Nero 6 isn't support in Windows 7 that is why I spent so much time looking and finding WinAmp work with Windows 7 that was a god send since Nero 6 no longer works in Windows 7.

Not really. Yes, they're still dominating, but the best years are behind them.

Sad day indeed. Winamp is so simple to use yet offers so much under the hood via plugins.

I installed Win8 the day it was available on my gaming rig. It has since been upgraded to 8.1. I have TuneIn Radio playing virtually every moment I am at that machine, and I play games on it. Sometimes for extended periods of time.

    It's never crashed.

Note that I can't actually remember the last time my gaming rig, over several years and iterations, has crashed.

It's been a long time since I used WinAmp. I think it was around V3. I briefly tried the WinAmp for Android beta but it was crashy so I forgot about it. I can't imagine it was doing much for AoL anyway.

Actually this might actually be a good move as they wanted to make mobility apps and Winamp would fit nicely with what they are trying to do not to mention a stable Winamp already. So this is probably a good move for them to do to compete with Apple and any other Apps.
