For some time now I have been experiencing DEP crashes on explorer.exe whenever I try to shut down the computer, it tries to bring up the window where you can Turn Off/Hibernate/etc, but I get a DEP window when its unsuccessful.

I have done many clean installs on my laptop and I think the problem program is one of the Microsoft .NET Frameworks but I am not too sure.

I was wondering if anyone has been experiencing this type of issue. I need the .NET Framework to run some programs and I don't want to disable DEP.

    My specs are:
    Acer Aspire 5002WLMi
    AMD Turion 64 ML-30 1.6 GHz
    Windows XP Home SP2
    1280MB RAM PC2700

DEP... that rings a bell. Right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced Tab>Performance Settings>Data Execution Prevention

    What is your setting?

I would strongly recommend searching Microsoft's Knowledge Base for the problem as they have saved me several times in the past. You haven't opened anything suspicious/possibly containing malware, have you?

My setting is Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.

I don't believe I have any malware on my system. I am cautious of what I download and I have antivirus running and make frequent scans.
