Every since I updated my system (Windows updates) a couple of week ago, I've been have these log-on failures. Windows loads, but when I attempt to log-in with my user ID, I get an exit button which leads to this:

Windows could not connect to the system event notification Service service

    Please consult Your System Administration

All my controls/keys are frozen (including power button) so the only alternative I have is to disconnect the power and restart.

Half of the time the system re-boots is without issue, the other times it take two or three of these cycles before I can finally log on.

Another thing I've also noticed that the volume icon on the laptops quick launch panel is red whenever I have this problem. I'm thinking there's a connection somehow?

Any ideas as to how I can determine the cause, or how to remedy this?

snes (windows service, not the old-style nintendo games!) really needs to be set up as an autostart service. If it has been set to manual or even delayed start, login failures can occur.

Also have a look at the requisites for snes and any services that depend in it. Make sure that those are set up as needed.

If you suspect that your service startups have become munged, go grab the default services startup .reg from blackviper and reset your machine to the install defaults.
