I'd posted something here but it turned out to be wrong information so I deleted it.

Before we go debugging the crash, why do you have SP1 installed for Windows 7? The Technet/MSDN release date is the 16th and general release is 22nd. I am going to start off by saying that if you did not download the service pack through official channels, then there is no guarantee that the service pack the actual one that will be released. Hence, there is a high chance that the service pack you have contains bugs that may have been fixed in the final release and thus, it might be the service pack that is the source of your system's random crashes.
Windows 7 without any service packs is version 6.1.7600. The 01 in 6.1.7601 indicates that you installed SP1.
Also, you may want to post your crash dump for someone to sift through because just the BC codes really isn't enough to diagnose a crash. -

If it is the release candidate the OP has installed, then I would remove the RC and check to see if it crashes. If it does, then we can rule out the RC as the source and inversely likewise.

It's the official downloaded from MS. I integrated it into the Boot ISO (Alienware W7 x64 Pro) and was a fresh install about a week ago. It's the only time I've had that problem so far, otherwise everything is great.

Alternatively, as suggested above, it might be from dubious sources in which case there could be any reason for that error.
Now if it is an official version, then it's either a Beta or Release Candidate - NEITHER of which should really be run on a "production machine" and bother should really be replaced by the final release once it comes out. -
Oh, yeah I see it would have been the RC then. i did download from MS.. Thanks for the information! (pretty dumb of me, really)
