This doesn't happen too often but its really really annoying when it does. I dont know whats causing it but for about 20-30 seconds, nothing will respond and i will hear the fan go crazy. I think the cpu usage will spike for some reason and I cant start task manager or anything. I can move the mouse around but cant click anything. I don't really have any cpu intensive processes running anyway. Right now it just happened while i was writing stuff in word. It doesn't happen a lot, like once a week or maybe even less.
    Any ideas?

It could just be time to reinstall your OS. It doesn't sound like anything's overheating, and memory problems usually result in BSODs. If you have the time, try a Linux LiveCD and use that for a while to see if the computer behaves the same way.

I don't think so. I just re installed windows 2 months ago. I think it could have to do with firefox and divx. It has started ever since divx showed up. Time to uninstall.

this happened to me as soon as i did reinstall... it has something to do with the intel matrix driver... when I used the official version off the site it froze itself every 10-30 secs... but when I used the beta someone posted here it worked fine after that
