I can never download from Rapid Share, it always says my IP is already downloading a file, no matter what I did for changing the IP or even accessing the link via a portal?

    any help?

Your ISP may be blocking Rapidshare or someone else on your network is downloading something off of /RS.

    no

it is a file sharing site, you can share videos, personal files, etc.....

it can be illegal if users misuse it, but that is not a rule of thumb

Let's say I want to back up my documents which are like 100 MB, I can safely back them up on Rapidd Share for later download.

Or if I want to send you some project or anything you name it, it depends how you use it then only could you classify it as legal or illegal.

plus, I didn't post this thread to see if it's legal or not, I am definately not sharing any Rapid Share links to anything illegal am I? I just asked a simple question, if you don't have the answer, please don't start this

Try restarting your router, sometimes helps. If that doesn't work, then try to delete cookies, helped me with same problem with different file sharing site once. Also, sometimes you just have to wait and try next day. Or buy premium account, it's cheap and problems with ip disappear forever. EDIT: actually scratch that, i fail at reading, didn't realize you already tried to reset IP.

No. Rapidshare, Megaupload and such are primarily used for file sharing, that is legal file sharing. It's just users that upload illegal stuff there so it's used for those means a lot. When you report upload which is in breach of copyright or other law, they immediately pull it down. Thus i don't see a reason why ISP should block it, Rapidshare is not breaking any law, it is promptly deleting bad stuff when reported, it's users who upload illegal stuff.

LOL... rapidshare is a pretty slow way of sharing files, both upload and download, unless you have the premium account. Rapidshare's free user bandwidth maxes about at around 250Kbit/s. SO annyoing when you want to download big files. E.g. It takes like 10 minutes to download 50MB of file when I can download a file from something like Windows LIve Skydrive under in about 30-60 seconds.

Anyways...if you're using the same node on your ISP's router, then most likely, you can't download from rapidshare when somebody else is donwloading.
E.g If your neighbor in half mile radius circle is downloading something from rapid share, you can't download it.

Also.. if you really need the file, just get rapidshare premium.

As far as I reckon... the problem lies on your ISP's side. What kind of account do you have... the normal or premium ??

but we have to fix the issue first man, I dont know if you will have the same problem I am facing, unless you own a premium account, it's a nightmare downloading from Rapid Share,

If you want a good free file backup / sharing site then head to www.4shared.com and creat a free account and back up all your data. There is a limit of 100 MB per file though on 4 shared unlike Rapid share which is almost unlimited I think.

    4Share however always works ;)

can't afford to pay for rapid share :(

Lolz rapidshare illegal come on :p

Well if it says your IP address is already downloading something then someone on the same network as you is downloading a file on rapidshare. I doubt it is the ISP. When you say change your IP address, do you mean your using a proxy? If it's a free one then yeah lots of people will be downloading on rapidshare :p

EDIT - Omg like 5 replies while typing this haha. By the way free rapidshare isn't slow at all. I've used it a couple of times and my downloads were of about 1m/s. If you haven't tried a proxy yet, might aswell try it.

What files are you trying to download. If the file size is small, I'll just download it for you and upload it somewhere else with unlimited bandwidth (something like 250MB/s+ download speed.)

BTW.. 4share isn't that much better than rapidshare. If you have Windows Live stuff, skydrive or live mesh or live sync are all free file sharing service from Microsoft. Skydrive offer 25GB free storage while live mesh/sync offer 5GB storage each. Skydrive has 50MB limit per file and live mesh and live sync has 5GB limit on their cloudstorage and the sky is the limit (something like 999999TB). Those 3 services has extremely fast download and upload speed as well. It always max out my school's T1 line and my 20MB/s+ home internet.

what if I have a file that is larger than 50 MB, I won't be able to upload it to skydrive?

Dude only my first sentence was referring to illegal stuff..
I've asked if you were using a proxy.. If your not, might aswell try one. It'll use another IP and there will surely be one you can use with rapidshare.

What I do is just split very large files and just upload them in parts. There's an option to download a whole folder as zip file, thus you can download like 100 part of 50MB each if you wanted. It's much better than way, especially with almost unlimited bandwidth that MS is giving us for free.

And yes, Skydrive prevent you from upload 50MB+ per file. THis is probably a artificial limit to prevent people abusing it.

If you want, I can give you my password for premium so that you can go ahead and check if that works.... If not, it's probably the ISP.

Rapidshare is so godlike when you have a premium account i tell you, it's worth all the money.. Now i won't say what i use it for, but it's always max speed.

On topic: MaXimus, i don't think there's anything you can do but to get a premium account somehow. Rapidshare probably somehow mess up and thinks that other people who have the same ISP as you, have the same IP.. or something..

hey dude, I love the interface of Sky drive! and the uploader is very good. But it does not allow me to upload zip or rar files or complete folders, what's the trick to do that?

I upload zip or rar files all the time. Did you install the plugin for internet explorer (BTW.. the plugin only works for Internet Explorer), you can drag and drop everything in a folder to the uploader tool. You cannot upload a folder of contents though, you'll have to open the folder up and upload the content that way.

Also, if you have Windows Live gallary, you can upload your pictures directly to skydrive which is awesome for photo backup.

@Maximus: Do you know if your ISP provides you with your own public IP, or if you share a public IP with other clients of your ISP?

I don't know that, I was never able to download from Rapid Share withint the UAE, my friends in the USA can easily download even with the FREE account they say.

For us people in Dubai RS without a premium account is useless

Ahh, I probably should have paid more attention to your "location" field. According to this OpenNet Initiative study covering 2004 and 2005, the UAE "blocks an unusually high percentage of internet content." As the report notes under the heading " E. Internet Content Regulation, the sole UAE ISP, Etisalat, "implements filtering on the Web proxy servers it uses."

That suggests to me that all of your internet traffic is being filtered through a proxy, which then passes acceptable traffic forward on to the target. In doing so, however, those proxies may not be invisible, or as invisible as the UAE would prefer. To prevent abuse, many internet services use some rather sophisticated methods of ferreting out IP addresses. I would guess that Rapidshare is one of those services that has a vested interest in ferreting out IP addresses of the actual requestor, even when the request is passed through various proxies or other methods of disguising the true originating IP.

As a result, it is entirely possible that when your packets hit Rapidshare's servers, they end up "seeing" the IP address for the UAE's content filtering web proxies, and since there are fewer of those than than there are internet users in the UAE, there is a very high probability that the IP address of the UAE proxy your request passed through was already presented to a Rapidshare server by an earlier request from another user in the UAE.

unless I have a premium account then I can download at blistering speeds.

That could just be due to those sites having better/different IP sniffing software. One test you might run is this: find out what IP address is assigned to the WAN side of your internet connection, and then try going to a website such as http://www.whatsmyip.org (more specifically, their More Info About You page) to see what sort of information you're presenting to a host once you pass through the UAE's web proxies.

For example, this is what they manage to figure out about me (I've redacted my actual external IP/Hostname info):
In particular, see what External IP they have for you and if they pick up anything in the "Proxy" field.

For me downloading from Megaupload is way faster than Rapidshare, both are free accounts.
