This thread is an extension of this one started by vinyard:

This thread is mainly to add a poll. Best to keep comments to the other thread if possible.

This is your overall general rating based on personal opinion for Windows 7 so far.

1 being the lowest, and 10 being the highest.

    WHO the h3ll rated 3?
    LOL!
Windows 7 only worth 3 points?
Then, I think Vista and XP will be 1 or 2 points.
ME will be 0.1 points. LOL.

If I could give it a B+ I would. I am running RC so I am sure the final one will be slightly better but its far from perfect but still great non the less.

My intention was to add a poll to my thread but I forgot to do so. :D
I'd say we should rate and discuss Windows 7 in this thread and let my thread die. Anyways... I have not tried out Windows 7 yet but from what I have seen on this board it sounds very promising.

The problem with pools is that you don't have people opinion. So already Linux and Mac or are somehow pissed at not getting a special deal out of their Vista Ultimate, will all vote bellow 5 without valid reason. Then if you force people to speak.. then you can hear their opinion and judge yourself if it's just the person system at fault, Windows 7, or a fanboy, etc...

I rated Win7 a 7. It would have gotten higher, but the DRM they have in it is keeping me from playing Netflix movies on my TV. Gotta love it when the legitimate consumers are shut out, but the pirates can watch things fine.

win 7 is great. i am having a great experience with it. only downside is that you might not find it compatible with a lot of softwares. wait a few more months for the software vendors to catch up with it before you can make full use of it. i would rate 8 for win 7 in term of speed and system stability and flexibility.

I think it's even better than XP SP3.
If that had been true of Vista, this Windows 6.1 release would not have been necessary.

I rated it a 9, because so far the RTM version has been pretty much flawless on five different test PCs in my lab. We do all our work on these test PCs, so they are ridden hard and put away wet... and they're fine.

I rated it a 9. It's almost perfect. But then again, nothing is, so I couldn't give it a 10.

But I do believe this is the best OS Microsoft has ever made.

Besides Windows 3.1 of course. :p

It's great for the most part but there are a bunch of minor annoyances still.

By the way, I just got a legit RTM pro copy and as I understand, it's supposed to be the final version that will be released in October. How come the version info still says 6.1? And it has a build number 7600. I mean I know the RTM is build 7600 but shouldn't that stuff not be there in the final version?

To what I remember, they left it as 6.1 for compatibility with Vista. I'm just thinking now that MS screwed the numbering for Windows 8.

I gave it a 9 and have been using and testing it for months now. I've thrown a lot of hardware at it, a lot of peripherals and thus far it has not disappointed.

Lets award this OS the points it deserves based on its merits or not, not based on Vista or what we think Vista should have been. That is water under the bridge come Oct 22.

Windows 7 is NT 6.1, as it's based (very close too) Vista.
Like what XP (NT 5.1) was over 2000 (NT5)

They called it Windows 7 as the 7th "large/widely used" Windows.
    Windows 95 - 1
    Windows 98 - 2
    Windows Me - 3
    Windows 2000 - 4
    Windows XP - 5
    Windows Vista - 6
    Windows 7 - 7

Few ever used/know (including businesses) used Windows NT 3 and 4.x. And Windows 3.1 and earlier was a not a real OS, as it was more of a menu setting above DOS.

That is true, but to the average consumer or even business user this is Windows 7 and they don't care about all that other under the hood stuff. Consumers are so easily confused it is best that they don't care.

Agreed! I mean Windows NT 6.1 sounds too technical (geeky?!) as well. Especially that most people will say "Where is Windows NT 6.0?" and now some average user will get confused. So 7 is a perfect name.

I'm really surprised about the rating! 71.11% of the voters gave Windows 7 either a nine or a ten.
And less than 30% rated it lower than nine.

I gave it an eight. Certain aspects of the UI still feel very clunky and non-intuitive to me.
