My brother is visiting home for a week and he has a thinkpad r61 that he want's the OS reinstalled. It has windows XP Pro currently installed and his recovery discs were left in Oklahoma.
I have a valid windows XP cd and we can use the key on the bottom of his laptop.
My real concern is the drivers and software. I once tried to install xp on a different r61 and it was a huge mess. Lenovo's site had thousands of drivers and I started downloading them all but then there was some issue with thinkvantage and all so generally It was a horrible experience.
That was about 1 1/2 yrs ago and now I'm quite a bit smarter. I've been able to install xp on my dell laptops without original recovery dics and I've successfully done it on some other laptops and desktops but no on IBMs/Lenovo's.

Does anyone have any advice on this. I want to give it a try and my brother said if it didn't work he would just get a new laptop anyway cause the IBM isn't the best for him.

    Thanks IA :)
