StopBadware.org came to the designation after noting one version inadequately discloses advertising behaviors, while another installs additional applications without notifying the user.

    Complete article

I read that 'Real Alternative' plays real media....How good is it ?

Where do you get the Vista Codec Pack and is it by MS? I use K-lite Mega Codec Pack ( http://www.codecguide.com/) and it also allows you to play just about any format.

I never install QuickTime or RealPlayer!

K-lite Mega Codec Pack plays any file u throw at it, is freeware, and uses very low system resources.

Lots of options with K-lite for custom installation. There is also Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative if you just want to replace them and CCCP which seems to be one of the most popular ones online, but I prefer K-lite with MPC. Donno, but VLC (Videolan) might also play real and quicktime.

Unfortunately VLC doesn't play real media files. I bet that's like the only file VLC can't play. And yes it can play quicktime files just fine.

I completely agree with this. I hate message center. But it's not hard at all to disable. Just turn it off from the message center options and/or disable the startup service.

Otherwise Realplayer is OK with me. And they came back hard because of the Video Download Plugin.

BTW .... Badware??? I doubt that means Spy/Malware.

Besides the Message Center which can easily be turned off, I don't see what all the fuss is about with Realplayer. I myself only had a problem with RealPlayer back in the days when it would buffer for ever. Now with Highspeed net and better software improvements, Realplayer runs flawless for me. I'll admit there is really no use for it besides playing .rpm .ram or .swf files, but what's the big deal? I myself just use it for the Download video plugin(which is the best).

I agree. I have been using it for the download video plugin ever since you posted it awhile back. I just disabled everything else so it never bothers me. ;)
