I don't know of a good free CAD program, but you might want to look at IntelliCAD, which has about 90% of AutoCAD functionality at about 10% of the price.

It might help if you could indicate what you want do do with your CAD program.

i only use autodesk products at school and at work and there far from free, but well worth it in my opinion. but you can try google sketch up, that works for creating 3d drawings. if you are a current college student you can download software from autodesk for free. http://students6.autodesk.com/
you can't download regular autocad 2008 but theres revit architecture, and some other good programs

Google SketchUp. I downloaded it a while ago but haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. It's free though.

Yea, if you're a college student, you can get Autodesk Inventor 2008 Professional for free. I used it in one of my classes.

SketchUp is solid modeling, not CAD. Fun to use, though :)

if you have some money to spent, maybe rhino will be a really good choice.

it´s a 3d modeller / partly cad program. right now they offer the program to students for ~200 dollars (i think).

the good thing is you can buy it as a student, but you may earn money with it. even if you have graduated and start your own business, you may use it to earn money. this offer is valid , until you are upgrading to the next program version.

I'm only looking for a program that would help me with D & T (wood work/metal work) in the later years of school. Not actually looking for a CAD program in specific, but I didnt know what else to call it.
