    Hi guys,

Just ordered a new Comanche SLI last week from Kobalt, thanks again Andrew for the excellent guidance when going through the components!

I just have a question about potential good Vista 64-bit suites.

I want one good security suite, after evaluating and using many myself over the years I cannot choose between my two last contenders:

    -Eset Smart Security 64-bit

-Bitdefender 2008 Total Security 64-Bit(2009 is still in Beta)

    Suggestions?

As an extra Anti-Spyware protection I hear good things about:

    -Windows Defender

-Is there a 64-bit version of Lavasoft`s Adaware? Or any other you recommend?

Is there currently any good Vista 64-bit System Utility Suite on the market?

In the past I have worked with Systweak`s Advanced System Optimizer, but it has no 64-bit version, same for Iolo`s System Mechanic. I have used Symantec`s Norton System Works in the past as well, but not a fan of Symantecs products, although I hear they improved last few years.

    I have found only this:

    WinUtilities 6.2 from YL Software

    http://www.ylcomputing.com/component...page/Itemid,2/

So any recommendation on a reliable good Vista 64-bit System Utility Suite? I always check http://www.start64.com for the latest news.

I know Ccleaner has a 64-bit version and is fast so I will get that one for sure anyway as an extra cleaner.

    Any advise is welcome.

    Thanks,

    Tim aka LZ

I say, use Eset. Though I don't generally like security suites. So get Eset Nod32 AV, then either use the built in firewall or a thirdpart firewall.

You do know that 32bit programs work fine on 64bit? You sound really worried about it.

Oh and Ccleaner is 32bit and it works perfectly fine on 64

First, thanks all for the feedback so far!

Most software products are compatible with 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, however, they are not guaranteed to be fully operable on 64-bit editions of Windows Vista or any other 64-bit operating system. A lot of software developers not recommended to install software under these environments.

So I rather have a product that is thoroughly tested in a 64-bit environment.

Maybe I`m cautious, but better be safe than sorry.

Vista64 has an 32bit emulating subsystem.

Ive never really found 64bit to have compatibility problems. Since we dont run the same programs, i suggest you check:

    1) Check the programs official website for compatibility

    2) Google the program and add 64bit or x64 in the end. Research from there

    3) Theres a list of Vista64 compatible programs, google that one too.

Its mostly advanced programs that are incompatible and they are a minority.
