I've seen a few recommendations in different posts, but very little discussion. I recently added a Dell I6000 to my current iMac and I'm looking for replacement apps to iPhoto and iMovie. Any suggestions on apps that are ideal for photo album creation, minor editing, organization, web posting? Digital movie editing? Thanks.

For photos, I like Adobe Photoshop Elements. Its for the most part user friendly, has several editing options if you want to do major editing, quick editing options, view/organizing photos, etc...

I can't remember how much it cost.

Thanks. I looked at Adobe's site. I see a Photoshop Elements and Album... it seems that Elements has everything Album does and then some, but there is no direct comparison at their site. Is this your understanding as well?

Also, there is a software bundle that include Photoshop Elements and Premier Elements (for video editing). Any experience with the video editing software?

I've used Adobe Premiere and its really good. Takes some time to get used to but that's similar to Photoshop. It can do some great things from basic things like simple cuts to cool looking effects. The only caveat is its expensive. But if if the bundle isn't too much, I'd go for it. Other good video editing software programs are Ulead MediaStudio and Sony Vegas. You can download free demos of any of these at their official sites.

The Gimp works well for basic photo editing and is free. I'd agree on Photoshop Elements. It is probably 80% of Photoshop so if you are not doing any high end stuff you should be in good shape. Can probably pick up a copy of Elements for $30-50 on eBay.

I liked all the features of Photoshop 7 on my Mac, though it's sometimes not intuitive and was a STEEP learning curve. It sounds like Elements has much of the same features... kinda strange that it's only $99 vs $599 for Photoshop. The bundle with Premiere is about $80-90 on ebay, so I might go for this. I'll take a look at your other suggestions, so thanks for those too!

I wish I could find a comparison somewhere between Elements and Photoshop, please let me know if you are aware of anything like this. Several folks have mentioned The Gimp in other threads. When I go to their site, I had trouble finding info about it's feature or any screen shots. Maybe I just need to dl and start playing around with it?

Thanks for the suggestion, will look into this as well. I'm thinking that if I'm going to buy something, I'd like it to have good photoalbum features as well as solid photo editing capability... if possible in one program. On my Mac, I use iPhoto for album/minor edits/publishing and Photoshop for
major edits. Having all in one would be nice on my Dell.
