So, after finally acquiring enough space on my HDD to install Windows 7, I some how manage to nuke my Vista installation with Gparted. It made the partition I wanted, but from what it seems like, my MBR got deleted, and, it seems like Gparted may have made a pass over all of my files once.
By the way, in case you are wondering, I am on Windows 7 now in the partition that was created. For the record, I have yet to be impressed.
First I tried Recuva, and while that was able to see some of my files, it would prefer restoring the whole partition as compared to the, few thousand that Recuva found ( not even close to what I actually have ). The data isnt the issue, since I've backed up most of it, and anything I've lost I either wont really miss or I can easily retrieve. The biggest issue, is simply the whole installation, since I had everything the way I wanted it.
After using Recuva, I stumbled upon Data Doctor Recovery NTFS, which so far has done pretty well, the only issue is, it for some reason has split my installation into 12 different file systems.( note - the scan to actually find all these files takes a good 6 hours, literally )
So far Ive check the first 6 File Systems and the only one with any files is the first one, which shows most of my files, however many are missing. The other five all have an empty miscellaneous folder. So, if anyone knows of a better solution to Data Doctor Recovery NTFS, Recuva, or Drive Image XML, please say so. Free or Paid ( relatively cheap paid for; like $20 ).
