    Hey everyone,

I just recently bought an HP DV5000t core duo 2.0 ghz 2 gb ram and windows media center. I have read that this system comes with a lot of bloatware and slows the machine down greatly. I bought the recovery CD with the laptop for 10$ and was wondering if all i have to do when i get the laptop is pop the recovery cd in and it will reinstall windows without the bloatware.

Thanks in advance for all of the replys.

I believe so, just make sure that you have the correct recovery disk, the one that has the OS only. If you have that, then you're golden, you should be able to reformat and then have a clean OS. I believe there are some special things you need to do to set up some important functions like the media keys or maybe that's just a Dell thing. Try searching the HP forum for reinstallation issues.

I have a DV1000, and had my hard drive replaced, and when reinstalling windows with the recovery disk it did not format the partition for the linux based quickplay function. I did not bother to fix it, since I have not used it once, but it may be important to some.

    Seriously doubt it.

The Recovery CD will probably just put the machine back to "factory fresh" install (or close to it) bloatware and all.

Basically you are stuck with bloatware unless you actually have a XP CD handy to use (and I've not tried using a XP SP2 normal CD to boot to and install laptop using the XP Code on the bottom of the laptop).

HP sends out XP discs without bloatware. The driver disk is where all of the bloatware is located. So if you wanted to dowload your drivers manually, you could skip the bloatware adding process.

Wow, nice to know :) Sorry, I'm used to Toshiba and Dell etc who just give you bloatware recovery disks.

Hey guys, Thanks for the help. I just got my laptop today and im going to be reinstalling windows tonight. I got the 10$ disk from HP but i have 1 quick question. Do i have to disable SATA in the bios before reinstalling or does the HP recovery CD have the drivers installed on it already? Thanks again for the help.
