Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone with experience could tell me if this scenario would work without problems:
1. I will buy a new laptop with a HDD
2. I will create recovery media using a USB thumb drive from the system itself
3. I will remove HDD and replace with a new SSD that I buy separately
4. I will boot up with the USB thumb drive and go through the recovery process
Thank you for your insights in advance! I can't seem to find the direct answer for this exact scenario anywhere on these forums or online.

Im assuming this is a windows 7 system if where you are putting the drive images are big enough sure and as long as the ssd is same size or more if it is more then theres a second step to getting the extra space you go into disc management and extend the partition after it has been restored from the image u created if its not windows 7 i think they removed the imaging process in windows 8

Generally that should work fine though it depends on what system you bought. Mind if you could tell us the model?

PatchySan, thank you for the help and even linking me to the appropriate site which has everything I'm looking for.
Do you know if I will have to do anything to activate windows on the new SSD? -
It should be preactivated when you do the Recovery Procedure so you don't need to worry about that. The activation details such as your product key is stored on the BIOS and should be recognized when you reload the Windows 8 OS.

Great, thanks again for lending your expertise. When I do this a few weeks from now i'll report back here if everything went smooth. I'm planning to purchase the Samsung 840 Pro series SSD and installing it into the ThinkPad Yoga.
